Portsmouth Pop-Up Shop: Goly Natural Shares Valuable Experience
Local Portsmouth business, Goly Natural, has recently completed a successful stint as the first tenant of the Portsmouth Pop-Up Shop scheme. This initiative by Portsmouth City Council aims to support local entrepreneurs and businesses by offering a prime high street location for a limited period, without the commitment of a long-term lease.
Goly Natural, run by Stef Dogan, specialises in handcrafted, natural, and organic skincare products, free from harsh chemicals. Stef has been crafting these products for over 13 years, and before the Pop Up shop, was trading online and at markets.
“The Pop-Up shop provided an incredible opportunity and has inspired me to open my own shop” says Stef. “It allowed me to reach a wider audience and connect with customers on a deeper level. People could discuss their skincare concerns and explore solutions tailored to their needs.”
The experience wasn’t without its challenges.
“The pop-up has been a great learning experience, especially regarding finances,” Stef reflects. “Maintaining high street business rates can be difficult for small businesses like mine.”
“Additionally, established brands nearby can present both advantages and disadvantages. While some customers actively sought out Goly Natural over larger competitors, others passed by, considering my offer the same ‘
Despite the hurdles, the Pop-Up Shop proved valuable for Goly Natural’s growth.
“Being there allowed me to gain new clients and stockists,” explains Stef.
“Most importantly, it solidified the importance of a physical storefront. The trust built face-to-face far surpasses online relationships.”
Thinking of Trying the Pop-Up Shop? Stef’s Tips:
- Do Your Research: Before diving in, conduct thorough market research to understand your target audience and their needs.
- Financial Prudence: Ensure you can comfortably cover all costs with your current revenue stream.
- Embrace the Publicity: The Pop-Up Shop offers valuable exposure, helping you reach new customers.
Stef enthusiastically encourages other local businesses to take advantage of the Pop-Up Shop program: “Go for it! But remember, careful preparation makes a big difference. This opportunity can be a significant stepping stone for your business.”
