Christmas Countdown Success
The countdown to Christmas is fully underway and started in Portsmouth with three consecutive Christmas Lights Switch On events. Each event was different and tailored to residents in Southsea, Cosham and city centre (where the lights had to move inside). Over 6000 residents braved the cold and even Storm Bert didn’t stop the fun to support local high street businesses.
Planning for Christmas starts months before. This year the team began in April confirming the Portsmouth Christmas market and procuring Christmas lights. The high street Christmas trees, along with Father Christmas were booked in August and the events team briefed to in September.
Sponsored by HSDC and Toob, the Christmas Lights Switch On Parties featured stars from panto including Lorraine Stanley (Eastenders) and George Sampson (Britain’s Got Talent), world streetdance champions FLAWLESS, Portsmouth FC manager John Mousinho, community groups, Father Christmas and walk about entertainers.
